Removal
Prevent crankshaft from rotating
clockwise or counterclockwise before using compressed air in cylinder. Rotation
of crankshaft may cause damage to flywheel holding tool. |

On vehicles equipped with a manual
transmission, leave transmission in first gear with vehicle
on ground and parking brake set. |
2. |
On vehicles equipped with an automatic
transmission, remove starter. |
3. |
On all vehicles, install flywheel
holding tool No. J 43653, or equivalent. |
4. |
Remove intake or exhaust camshaft,
as required. |
5. |
Remove camshaft roller followers (1),

Install valve spring compressor adapter
set (1), tool No. J 43649-10, or equivalent to front and rear of
cylinder head, Fig. 2. |
7. |
Install cross bars and locks (2) to
valve spring compressor tool No. J 43649, or equivalent Fig.

9. |
Install an air hose adaptor into spark
plug hole. |
10. |
Pressurize cylinder to 100 psi. |
11. |
Compress valve spring using valve spring
compressor (3), Fig. 2. |
12. |
Remove valve spring keepers (1),
Fig. 3. |
13. |
Remove valve spring retainers (2) and
springs (3), Fig. 3. |
14. |
Remove valve seal (2) using valve guide
seal remover (1) tool No. J 36017, or equivalent, Fig.
4. |

Installation
1. |
Install valve seal using valve guide
seal remover tool No. J 36017, or equivalent, Fig. 4. |
2. |
Install valve spring and retainer. |
3. |
Compress valve spring. |

Install valve spring keepers, Fig.
3. |
5. |
Remove air hose adaptor from spark
plug hole. |
6. |
Remove valve spring compressor tool
No. J 43649, or equivalent, from cylinder head. |
8. |
Install camshaft roller followers. |
10. |
Install starter, as required. |
11. |
Remove flywheel holding tool No. J
43653, or equivalent. |
