Chevrolet Cobalt Service & Repair Manual: Water Pump Assembly R&R
1. |
Remove the engine coolant temperature
sensor, Fig. 1. |
2. |
Remove the thermostat and water feed
pipe retaining bolts, Fig. 2. |
3. |
Remove the thermostat housing and water
feed pipe from the water pump cover. |
4. |
Remove the water pump retaining bolts.
Be sure to remove the bolt that goes through the front of the engine
block, Fig. 3. |
5. |
Remove the water pump assembly. |
6. |
Remove the water pump sprocket (2)
and bolts (1), if required, Fig. 4. |
7. |
Reverse procedure to install, noting
the following: |

a. |
Torque water pump sprocket bolts
to 89 inch lbs. |
|
b. |
Torque water pump bolts to 18
ft. lbs. |
|
c. |
Torque water pump drain plug
to 15 ft. lbs. |
|
d. |
Torque thermostat housing to
block bolts to 89 inch lbs. |
|
e. |
Torque engine coolant temperature
sensor to 15 ft. lbs. |

Removal
Prevent crankshaft from rotating
clockwise or counterclockwise before using compressed air in cylinder. Rotation
of crankshaft may cause damage to flywheel holding tool.
