Chevrolet Cobalt Service & Repair Manual: Motor Vehicle, Inspection

A visual inspection must always be performed to confirm the presence of aftermarket components, potential collision damage, or areas of concern.
1. Inspect service history of vehicle.
2. Inspect engine oil level.
3. Inspect transmission/transaxle fluid level.
4. Inspect brake fluid level.
5. Inspect engine coolant level.
6. Inspect windshield washer fluid level.
7. Inspect power steering fluid level.
8. Inspect hydraulic clutch fluid level, if equipped.
9. Inspect battery charge state and condition of terminals.
10. Inspect engine air filter.
11. Inspect accessory drive belt(s) for wear or cracking.
12. Inspect engine cooling system hoses and clamps.
13. Inspect air conditioning system lines and components, if equipped.
14. Inspect fuel system including filler neck cap seating.
15. Inspect brake system (including lines, hoses and parking brake) and wheel ends for end-play and bearing noise.
16. Inspect brake pads/shoes and rotors/drums for excessive wear.
17. Inspect constant velocity drive axle boots, if equipped.
18. Inspect drive shaft U-joints, if equipped.
19. Inspect transfer case and/or drive axle gear oil level, if equipped.
20. Inspect transmission/transaxle shift linkage, lubricate if required.
21. Inspect exhaust system for leaks, damage and loose components.
22. Inspect for oil and/or fluid leaks.
23. Inspect shocks/struts and other suspension components for leaks and/or damage.
24. Inspect suspension system auto leveling, if equipped.
25. Inspect steering and steering linkages for excessive wear.
26. Inspect chassis component lubrication.
27. Inspect tires for proper inflation pressure.
28. Inspect tires for tread depth and irregular wear patterns.
29. Inspect body component lubrication.
30. Test operation of horn, interior lights, exterior lamps, turn signal, hazard and brake lamps.
31. Test operation of interior heating/AC system.
32. Test operation of interior dome light and dimmer switch.
33. Test operation of interior electronic features.
34. Inspect windshield for cracks, chips and pitting.
35. Inspect windshield washer spray, wiper operation and blades.
36. Inspect cabin air filter, if equipped.
37. Inspect safety restraint system components.
38. Connect a suitably programmed scan tool and scan for any stored DTCs.
39. Inspect clutch operation, if equipped.
40. Inspect body for any scratches, dents or damage.
