Chevrolet Cobalt Service & Repair Manual: Axle Shaft R&R
Refer to Fig. 1
when performing the following procedure. |
1. |
Raise and support the vehicle. |
2. |
Remove the rear tires and wheels. |
3. |
Disconnect the rear brake pipes and
the hoses from the rear axle. |
4. |
Disconnect the parking brake cable
from the rear axle mounting bracket. |
5. |
Support the rear axle with a hydraulic
lift table. |
6. |
Remove the rear coil springs. |
7. |
Remove all rear axle mounting bracket
to body bolts. |
8. |
Use the hydraulic lift table to lower
the rear axle from the vehicle. |
9. |
Remove the rear axle bushing through
bolts and the rear axle mounting brackets. |
10. |
Reverse procedure to install, noting
the following: |

a. |
Torque axle bushing through
bolts to 66 ft. lbs. |
|
b. |
Torque rear axle bracket to
body bolts to 66 ft. lbs. |
