Parking Brake Equalizer Cable, Replace
1. |
Remove center console. |
2. |
Remove adjuster nut and cables from
equalizer, Fig. 1. |
3. |
Place parking brake lever to highest
position. |
4. |
Lift equalizer cable over parking brake
indicator switch and swing forward. Pull cable down and out of parking
brake lever. |
5. |
Reverse procedure to install. Adjust
parking brake cable. |

Parking Brake Cable, Replace
Camaro
1. |
Raise and support vehicle. |
2. |
Remove exhaust muffler intermediate
heat shield. |
3. |
Remove fuel tank heat shield. |
4. |
Pull rear park brake cable equalizer
forward and disengage front park brake cable from equalizer. |
5. |
Release rear park brake cable ferrules
from retaining bracket. |
6. |
Push cable ferrules rearward to release. |
7. |
Release rear park brake cables from
two retainers on fuel tank. |
8. |
Release rear park brake cables from
retainer on each side of rear suspension cradle. |
9. |
Disconnect rear park brake cable eyes
from park brake actuators. |
10. |
Release rear park brake cable ferrules
from suspension knuckles. |
11. |
Push cable ferrules forward to release. |
12. |
Remove rear park brake cable assembly. |
13. |
Reverse procedure to install. |

Cobalt
Front
1. |
Raise park brake lever and unsnap park
brake boot from console. |
2. |
Lift up on rear of console compartment
to release retaining fasteners. |
3. |
Lift console compartment and push park
brake boot through opening in compartment. |
4. |
Slide console compartment over park
brake lever. |
5. |
Release park brake cable tension. |
6. |
Remove park brake cable adjuster nut
and washer, Fig. 2. |
7. |
Disconnect rear park cables from front
park brake cable equalizer, then remove front park brake cable by
pulling rearward. |
8. |
Reverse procedure to install. Adjust
parking brake cable as outlined in Adjustments. |

Rear
1. |
Raise park brake lever and unsnap park
brake boot from console. |
2. |
Lift up on rear of console compartment
to release retaining fasteners. |
3. |
Lift console compartment and push park
brake boot through opening in compartment. |
4. |
Slide console compartment over park
brake lever. |
5. |
Release park brake cable tension. |
6. |
Remove rear lower seat cushion. |
7. |
Release rear edge of carpet from retainers. |
8. |
Place carpeting forward to access rear
park brake cables. |
9. |
With park brake lever released, remove
rear brake cable from equalizer. |
10. |
Release rear cable from retainer on
park brake lever, then pass through grommet. |
11. |
Raise and support vehicle. |
12. |
Remove rear tire and wheel assembly. |
13. |
Remove rear brake shoes. |
14. |
Release park brake cable retainer from
drum brake backing plate, Fig. 3. |
15. |
Release rear cable to underbody retaining
clip and park brake cable from clip, Fig. 4. |
16. |
Release C-shaped retainer from park
brake cable at bracket and remove cable, Fig. 5. |
17. |
Reverse procedure to install. Adjust
parking brake cable as outlined in Adjustments. |

Malibu
1. |
Ensure parking brake is fully released. |
2. |
Remove console as follows: |
|
a. |
Remove console upper trim plate. |
|
b. |
Remove right and left side trim panels. |
|
c. |
Remove bolt covers using a suitable
screwdriver. |
|
d. |
Remove console attaching bolts, then
the console. |
3. |
Remove rear carpet as follows: |
|
a. |
Remove front seats, then rear seat
cushion. |
|
b. |
Remove front and rear carpet retainers,
then the lower center pillar molding. |
|
c. |
Remove body lock pillar molding, then
rear carpet. |
4. |
Remove right or left rear park brake
cable from console park bracket and front park brake cable equalizer,

Raise and support vehicle. |

Remove the plastic retainer clips from
body, Fig. 7. |
7. |
Remove the cable from the bracket. |
9. |
Remove rear parking brake cable retainer
bolt. |
10. |
Remove rear parking brake cable from
caliper park brake lever |
11. |
Lower vehicle, then remove plastic
retainer clips from stud. |
12. |
Remove parking brake cable and pass-through
grommet from body, then the cable. |
13. |
Reverse procedure to install noting
the following: |

Reverse procedure to install. Adjust
parking brake cable as outlined in Adjustments. |

Parking Brake Shoes, Replace
1. |
Raise and support vehicle, then remove
rear tire and wheel assemblies. |
2. |
Remove rear caliper to rear axle control
arm bolts and support caliper aside. |
3. |
Remove mounting screw and rotor. |
4. |
Remove return springs, parking brake
shoes and hold-down retainers. |
5. |
Remove parking brake shoes and adjuster. |
6. |
Reverse procedure to install. Adjust
parking brake as outlined in Adjustments. |
