Chevrolet Cobalt Service & Repair Manual: Description
The TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitor
System) warns the driver when a significant loss or gain of tire pressure
occurs in any of the four tires, and allows the driver to display the individual
tire pressures and the locations on the DIC (Driver Information Center)
display. The system uses the BCM (Body Control Module), DIC, instrument
panel cluster, RCDLR (Remote Control Door Lock Receiver), a RF (Radio Frequency)
transmitting tire pressure sensor in each wheel and the serial data circuit.
Each tire pressure sensor has an internal power supply with service life
of 10 years. |
When the vehicle is stationary,
the sensor is inactive. When the vehicle is operated and as the vehicle
speed increases, centrifugal force activates the sensors internal accelerometer
causing the sensors to go into rolling mode. In the rolling mode, the sensors
read tire pressure once every 30 seconds and transmit the reading once every
60 seconds. The remote control door lock receiver, receives and translates
the data transmitted by the sensors into sensor presence, sensor mode, and
tire pressure. The remote control door lock receiver sends the tire pressure
and tire location data to the DIC where the readings can be displayed. The
sensors continuously compare the last pressure reading to the current pressure
reading and will transmit if a 1.2 psi change in tire pressure has been
detected in either a stationary or rolling mode. When the TPMS detects a
significant loss or gain in tire pressure, the "Check Tire Pressure" message
is displayed on the DIC display and the low tire pressure indicator is illuminated.
The remote control door lock receiver can detect faults in the TPMS. Any
fault detected will cause the DIC to display the "Service Tire Monitor"
message. |
