Some manufacturer supplied short block assemblies do not come equipped with crankshaft and dampener. In-block cam short block assemblies may not include camshaft and timing gear. If short block assembly does not come equipped with these components, install components from original donor engine if available.
Warning: Ensure engine is properly attached to and supported by a suitable engine stand. Personal injury may result from engine falling.
1. On assemblies using original engine as donor, proceed as follows:
  a. Remove engine assembly from vehicle as outlined in "Engine, Replace."
  b. Remove engine starter assembly if not removed during engine removal.
  c. Remove flexplate or flywheel from crankshaft.
  d. Mount engine to a suitable engine stand.
  e. Remove any drive belt components still attached to engine.
  f. Remove any drive belt component brackets still attached to engine block, if equipped.
  g. Remove water pump.
  h. Remove cylinder head(s) as outlined in "Cylinder Head, Replace."
  i. Remove In-block lifters and camshaft, if equipped, as outlined in "Camshaft, Replace."
  j. Remove motor mounts still attached to engine block, if equipped.
  k. Remove any sensors or block heaters still attached to block, if equipped.
  l. Remove oil pan as outlined in "Oil Pan, Replace."
  m. Remove oil pump as outlined in "Oil Pump, Replace."
  n. Remove crankshaft, if required, as outlined in "Crankshaft, Replace."
  o. Remove any remaining components not installed on short block.
2. On all assemblies, install crankshaft to short block assembly, if required, as outlined in "Crankshaft, Replace."
3. Install oil pump as outlined in "Oil Pump, Replace."
4. Install oil pan as outlined in "Oil Pan, Replace."
5. Install all sensors or block heaters to block, if equipped.
6. Install motor mounts to engine block, if equipped.
7. Install In-block lifters and camshaft, if equipped, as outlined in "Camshaft, Replace."
8. Install cylinder head(s) as outlined in "Cylinder Head, Replace."
9. Install water pump.
10. Install any drive belt component brackets to engine block, if equipped.
11. Install any drive belt components still attached to engine.
12. Remove engine from engine stand.
13. Install flexplate or flywheel to crankshaft.
14. Install engine starter assembly if not installed during engine installation.
15. Install engine assembly to vehicle as outlined in "Engine, Replace."
